George Gurr Passes

George Gurr passed away on Friday (7/31/2015) evening at home.  George was a member of our Rotary Club until July 1 of this year when he had to resign his membership for medical reasons.

George joined the Rotary Club of Sequim in December of 1989 as a transferee from the Rotary Club in Alaska.  He was honored as Rotarian of the year multiple times while belonging to the Rotary Club in Alaska.  He served as our Club's President during the 1994/1995 Rotary year.  He was a Paul Harris plus 1 Rotarian.  He was appointed to a 3 year term in Washington DC as BLM's (Bureau of Land Management) first Director of the Johnny Horizon program.  George was a great Rotarian and was known for his ability to sell Duck Derby and Salmon Bake tickets.  George earned the distinction of one of the Duck Derby Program "top duck sellers" for several years in a row.

(Editor's Note) George Gurr was presented a Club 80th Anniversary Award for Outstanding Service in 2010.
